starting line of life

“Something we were withholding made us weak, until we found it was ourselves. -Robert Frost”

The starting line of life resembles a race. There’s so much to do before you get there.

The race wave starts at 8am but the alarm goes off at 3, I eat toast with peanut butter, a banana and half a coffee. I pack my bags that I spent five hours organizing the day before, digest my food, use the bathroom, pray, drive to the start, drink gatorade, don my wetsuit and stand in line for 2 hours.

Sounds like life.

It’s scary. You get to the start and all of your fears are charging at you. Are you ready? Did you swim enough, get enough sleep or finish your long runs? You start comparing yourself to the other people standing in line because they look more ready, more certain, more like a real athlete.

Chin up.

Just like I signed up for the race, I signed up for life. I may not always be ready, capable, or know what the hell I’m doing, but I’ll fight like a mother when the gun goes off.
